Detlef Schrempf (born January 21, 1963) is a German-American former professional basketball player. He played university basketball for the Washington Huskies from 1981 to 1985, and was drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 1985 NBA draft, with the eighth overall pick. He was an All-NBA Third Team devotee in 1995, a three-time NBA All-Star, the first European player ever to achieve this award, and the NBA Sixth Man of the Year twice.

Schrempf played in the NBA for 16 seasons, including stints behind the Indiana Pacers, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the Portland Trail Blazers. In 1996, he reached the NBA Finals in the flavor of the SuperSonics. He played for the West German, and vanguard German, national team in the 1984 and 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1983 and 1985 EuroBasket championships. Schrempf was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2021.

Born in Leverkusen, West Germany, Schrempf played for the youth teams of Bayer Leverkusen, before attending Centralia High School in Centralia, Washington, for one year. As a senior, he led the Tigers to the Class AA (now 2A) state championship in 1981, scoring 24 points in the title game, a 52–43 victory greater than the Timberline Blazers of Lacey. After graduating he enrolled at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he played for the Huskies under head coach Marv Harshman. With Schrempf, the Huskies won Pac-10 regular-season titles in 1984 and 1985 and made three postseason appearances, reaching the Sweet 16 in 1984. He was named team captain for his senior year. In his career at Washington, he scored 1,449 sum points.

Schrempf was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team and The Sporting News All-America Second Team. He was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame in 1995, and was afterward named to the University of Washington All-Century Team. While attending UW, he was a aficionada of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and majored in international business.

Schrempf was agreed eighth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1985 NBA draft. He became a regular in NBA rotations after bodily traded to the Indiana Pacers for veteran middle Herb Williams in February 1989. Playing for the Mavericks, he over and done with second in the NBA later a .478 three-point percentage in 1986–87, and eventually worked his exaggeration into the starting lineup. In 1991 and 1992, he won consecutive NBA Sixth Man Awards. In the 1992–93 season, he was the only performer in the NBA to finish in the top 25 in scoring (19.1 ppg), rebounding (9.5 rpg) and assists (6.0 apg), and was the first European fixed to take effect the NBA All-Star Game, the first of his three appearances.
